July 2010Collection Day - Saturday, August 7th
Alderman Reilly invites you to participate in an important recycling initiative that will take place on Saturday, August 7th between the hours of 8:00 am and 12:00 noon. PC Rebuilders and Recycling, a private company partnering with the City of Chicago, will provide trucks to pick-up unwanted electronic equipment in the first-ever "Electronic Collection Day." The electronics will then be re-furbished for re-use or recycled.
The primary goal of this recycling initiative is to reuse as much of the equipment as possible. If an individual piece of equipment is not suitable for reuse, PC Rebuilders will try to harvest parts for reuse. If reuse is not feasible, the electronics will be recycled. PC Rebuilders has adopted the Responsible Recycling (R2) best management practices that are being promoted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as their standards for processing materials that they receive from collection events.
Electronics that will be accepted include, but are not limited to, the following:
Televisions
DVD Players
VCRs
PDAs
MP3 Players
Video Equipment
Mobile Phones
Computer Equipment
In order to ensure the materials are collected you simply need to set the items on the curb outside your building prior to 8:00 am the morning of the pick-up, trucks will be sweeping each downtown neighborhood to collect the electronic equipment. All 42nd Ward residential properties are eligible to participate in this event at no charge.
